Yoga is coming!

As the refurbishment nears completion at Mitcham, we are delighted to be able to offer Yoga classes to our patients. Annabel Saies is joining the sportsmed family as our yoga instructor.

Find out a little more about what Annabel will be offering:

Studying, exploring and playing with various movement practices and modalities has always been a huge part of Annabel’s life.

From yoga, dance, team sports and outdoor fitness, Annabel is passionate about instructing people how to move and breathe in a way that expresses freedom and strength in their bodies. She believes that if we train the body to move and breathe better it will have a direct relationship on our state of mind and being. Who doesn’t want to feel strong and free in their body and mind?

Over the last 10 years Annabel has worked in a variety of movement industries, each one layering upon the other to expand her knowledge and deepen her understanding of human movement. She has worked as a contemporary dance performer, outdoor group fitness and personal trainer, yoga teacher and most recently pilates instructor. The most wonderful thing that she has learnt across her career is that no body is the same and her delight to continue teaching people how to move is fueled by the diversity of people she meets along the way. The second highlight for her is noticing the community and relationships that are formed when people choose to consistently show up to their movement practice and the ripple effect this has on their lives.

Annabel is a certified 500+ hr yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, Studio Pilates International mat pilates instructor, Cert III group fitness trainer, and has a Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Dance. You can expect her classes to intertwine influences from all with a strong focus on anatomy, alignment and breath.

There will be two different yoga classes offered at Mitcham. Slow Yoga; a class that will work to set up and hold standing and seated yoga postures for longer periods of time. This will give people time to understand how to get in and out of the poses, making adjustments and modifications to find the best fit for their body. Flow Yoga is a class that will work to sequence and weave different yoga postures together challenging people to find their way from the ground to standing in a more seamless way.

There will be a big emphasis on moving with your breath and slow controlled transitions as we move from holding poses to moving poses. Are you ready to let yourself be moved? Please call the Mitcham Clinic on 8271 4122.
